Dogs banned from region's beaches

Dogs are to be banned from beaches in the East Riding during the summer.

The ban on dogs on East Riding resort beaches will come into force on Tuesday, May 1, and run until Sunday, September 30.
Dog owners are being urged to observe the bans and exercise their pets on areas outside the designated zones, which area clearly signed.

The areas dogs are banned from are:
Bridlington north beach from the north pier to a line extending east from Limekiln Lane;
Bridlington south beach from the south pier to a line extending east from Kingston Road;

Fred Walkington, foreshores manager for East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “We put a lot of effort into keeping the beaches clean and free of litter, and this includes making sure there is no dog mess on the sands.
“The seasonal ban is an essential part of making the beaches safe and attractive places for families, especially those with young children.

“We are grateful for the understanding and co-operation of the vast majority of dog owners and hope it continues throughout the summer.”
Anyone caught walking their dog in the ban areas during the period the ban is in force could be issued with a £500 fixed penalty ticket.
The ban is in force from May 1 to September 30 every year at beaches around the UK.
